Week 09: Film and New Media - Advertisement (TV & Social Media)

Class Task and Information

  • Lesson 01:
      • Using iMovie to sequence and create a post-production product


      • Develop skills and apply key techniques in iMovie



    • The editing / Post production process
      • Check your raw footage (This is done through Finder and VLC player)
      • Label your files
        • Scene 1 ES (Establishing Shot)
        • Scene 2 OTS MC Person 1

      • Create a new project in a designated folder
        • Best to place this on your desktop and do not move
        • Place all used assets into this folder
          • Still images
          • Video footage
          • Audio (actors)
          • Foley effects
          • music
        • **Do Not Move This Folder until complete**

      • Dry cut
        • Sequence all your shots into the presentation order.
        • Trim each shot so the story line is maintained and sequences your storyboard.

      • Add all audio components.
        • Sequence
        • Trim
        • Enhance
        • Voice overs

      • Add Transitions
        • Remember what the different transitions represent
        • Ensure the narrative and not distract the audience
        • These are video/moving, still images and audio transitions

      • Titles and overlays

      • Visual enhancements
        • Colour correction to maintain consistency
        • Themes and moods
        • Remember how colour influences audiences.

        • Fading Audio
        • Adding Transitions
        • Titles and Backgrounds

        • Export Settings

      • Post Production


      • Construct a video narrative using stock footage.
      • Implement iMovie Skills and techniques.

    • Reminder:
      • Make sure you leave room for a title and introduction to your narrative.
      • Follow the construction guidelines from lesson 1 this week.
      • Students are to ensure they are saving their work.
      • Final product must be submitted by the end of tomorrows lesson in SWT

      • Focus Materials: FT - The Waiting Task Sheet



      • Provocation: In this scene, a character is waiting for a friend at park bench who is half an hour late for their study date. The main character is clearly annoyed by the lateness of her friend and verbally takes out her frustration on him before storming off.

      • Task 01: (15min)
        • Each member of the team must have their own storyboard with their 2 extra scenes.
        • Before any equipment is given out, the team must be ready to record each persons' scenes
        • Remember you will be submitting your 2 scenes as part of this formative assessments.

      • Task 02: Location Scout (20min)
        • As a group, go for a walk to areas that you think will be appropriate to film
        • Make a list of positives, Negatives and concerns.
        • You are to scout at least one location per team member.
        • Take a photo, or use your web cam to capture the potential location.



      • Students are to prepare a document of locations listing the positives, Negatives and concerns that will be presented next lesson.


      • Complete your final mastered project.


    • Students have followed the post production process:
      • Label your files
      • Create a new project in a designated folder
      • Dry cut
      • Add all audio components.
      • Add Transitions
      • Titles and overlays
      • Visual enhancements
      • Export for SWT.
