Week 06: Design Technologies and Materials

Class Task and Information

  • Lesson 01:
      • Provocation: Deep Rescue - Search and Find
      • Using code to control systems, for example code to program a micro-controller or a simple, object-based coding application to program a system such as a remote-controlled car or simple robot. (ACTDEK031)
      • Recognising the need to increase food production using cost efficient, ethical and sustainable production techniques (ACTDEK032)
      • Critique needs or opportunities for designing and investigate, analyse and select from a range of materials, components, tools, equipment and processes to develop design ideas (ACTDEP035)

    • Task 01: Students are to paste worksheets into their Design IDEAS book


      • Lesson Task Sheet
    • Task 2:
      • Ensure that you have complete the work from last week (First two pages)
        • Questions 1, 2 and 3


    • Task 3:
      • Complete the tasks from the activity sheet (Task 2, Task 3, Task 4)
      • Ensure that your robot is able to find the swimmer in an expanding search pattern.

    • Task 01:
      • Complete the thinking task about ethical and sustainable production of food?
        • You can talk about how the device can be changed to get rid of invasive weeds?
        • Devices that can be attached to improve harvesting and why (cost of labour and harvest speeds)


    • Task 02:
      • Practical Design
      • Collect some graph paper if needed from Mr Marsden
      • Draw a diagram of how the robot would look if you were to develop this into a working prototype.
      • Annotate your diagram with the following information (use arrows and identify):
        • What materials would be used to construct your design
        • Outline the technologies required to make the solution
        • Use a scale to give perspective of the size of the design
        • Improvement over the initial EV3 solution.
