Week 02: IDEAS - Design Technology

Class Task and Information

  • Lesson 01:

    • Provocation and Inspiration - Balance the scales



    • Resources required for the lesson:
      • Design equipment
        • A5 Notes book
        • Highlighters (3 colours - try to get pastels as they are more effective)
        • 2b + H Pencils + sharpener + eraser
        • Black felt tip pen (2 sizes for thin and heave lines)
        • Ruler
        • A3 paper (given out in class) - Draft + final copy





    • Task 01: 5 minutes.
    • Task 02:
      • First person to roll the following numbers will do:
        1. Scribe for the group
        2. Proof reader
        3. Reporter for the group
        4. Leader
        5. Wild Card - the motivator / outside the box
        6. Roll again

      • Record the person and their function in the group


          • Research clock - 15 minutes with technology





    • Task 3: 15 minutes to Ideate
      • In your small group, develop your presentation and rapid fire pitch.




    • Task 4: The Pitch
      • groups will be selected at random to give a 3 minute pitch to the class covering:
        • The focus issue and context
        • The design of the solution
        • How this will improve / resolve the provocation
        • Expected issues in the design and testing phases.




  • Lesson 02:
    • Model of the computer (Input, Processing, Output)
    • Central Processing unit + Storage
    • Future of technology 2050

    • Task 1:
      • Technology engages us and assists in every aspect of our life. Thinking back 40 years ago, what do you think life would have been like? Write down 10 digital / technological things that you think they did not have in 1980.

      • In your table group, make a list from the most important and useful device or technology down to the least important, of the top 10 things you expect they did not have back in 1980.

      • Create a list of the devices that every teenage students should have in 2020.

      • Presentation - Block diagram of the computer.

  • Lesson 03:



    When all questions are answered Pair Share and Evolve.



Readings / Homework
  • Complete all set tasks and questions. Students must be able to demonstrate their knowledge for their endeavour grades.
